Friends of the Rena river

The purpose of The friends of the Rena river is to focus on what should be done to make a brilliant fishing river truly fantastic!

The thoughts around possible improvements will vary from person to person, and it appears that management may be the hottest topic amongst us sportsfishermen... and it has been evident in the past, that this leads to disagreements between the bastions.

This is bound to happen, but the important thing to remember, is that each and every one who participates in these discussions with passion and ardour, try to, in spite of our differences in single matters, focus on forming a united front against the other threats our river is facing, and that THIS is more important than our individual needs... Neither of us are enemies of the river!

To be a bit bold, one might say that we, the fishermen, are the best friends a river can have.

We depend on the river being healthy, and we are the ones who keep a close eye on the complete ecosystem that is the river, while most people may just see it as a river that begins and ends with a beautiful sparkling surface.

And then there is the question, what IS a healthy and salubrious river? If we can agree that the river starts on the bottom, continues through the body of water and quite a bit into the woods on each side, then we have come a long way.
Another purpose of The friends of the Rena river, is to create a nice forum for the majority of us. Hopefully for everybody, but 'everybody' is a very big word!

The room that The friends of the Rena river resides here in cyber-space, is a flexible one, with room for many people. Petty differences in opinion about this and that arise in the best of families, and should not be a reason to stay away from the forum.

Many people can contribute with so much, and it is not the size of the beak that matters, but what comes out of... There is a saying in Norwegian that goes, -"Many small brooks make a big river" and this is the reason why we, The friends of the Rena river meet, whether it's because of the previously mentioned dangers our river is facing, or just a nice forum for people, who love the life of a fisherman!

There is a lot of space under our ceiling, as we say in Norwegian, you should be an exceptionally good jumper, or wake up very close to the ceiling to hit your head on it. Just remember that we are all people, and we probably all have the little flaws we see in other people, though they can be hard to see in ourselves, so hopefully, we should all be all right!

Free guide in the Rena river

Our offer of a free guide is meant to provide new and less experienced users of the Rena river with a chance to fall in love with the river.

It is very important to us that the users of the river are happy. The more people who care about the Rena river, the better armed we will be in the fight against the two biggest threats the river is facing. The regulators/power producers, and the military/Rena camp. It is also very important that as many as possible have some thoughts as to how to manage the recourses in the river. The more people who care about a subsidiary and future-forward management, that the majority of the sportsfishermen and their descendants can enjoy, the better.

The degree of guiding will probably vary a lot; remember that this is being done by volunteers, who offer their services to whoever is interested. Maybe 'fishing trips with experienced fishermen' is a better term than 'guiding'?

There will be detailed maps posted on our homepage, and there will be printed maps for those who are interested.
I hope that as many as possible will volunteer to be guides, so that as many as possible may get a "kick-start", and hopefully a life-long loving relationship with the river. She deserves it!

Those who are interested in being guided, and those who are interested in being the guides for these hopeful sportsfishermen, can send an e-mail to:
